Encouraging excellence
As exam pass-rates rise, so does the debate about exams becoming easier. However award-winning housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes is focusing on rewarding students for their dedication and scholarship by teaming up with three schools as part of its ongoing bid to encourage excellence in education through its ‘Encouragement Pack’ programme.
By sponsoring the GCSE geography award at Sackville School, the NOVI Progress award at Tonbridge School and the 'Young Artist of the Year' prize at Weald of Kent Grammar, Millwood hopes to encourage students to excel and reward their fantastic achievements. The latest beneficiaries of the 'Encouragement Pack' are David Saunders, Mark Davison and Katie Brough respectively. All of whom have been presented with their own cup, together with a £100 prize, while the schools retain a large trophy to mark present and future winners.

It's my house and I'll build if I want to ...
Is the ultimate dream home, without any DIY a mission impossible? If you believe the only way to acquire your ideal home in a prime location is to build it yourself, think again. Award-winning housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes is offering the unique opportunity of a stunning new home on the leafy outskirts of Tunbridge Wells, tailored to homebuyers individual needs, courtesy of the company’s innovative ‘Design and Build’ service. This scheme lets purchasers have input on how their new home is built, without the hassle of planning applications, labour or finding the perfect location.
Ridgewood View in Langton Green will comprise either one or two extensive and impeccably specified homes, set in extensive grounds of up to 1.5 acres, with resplendent views of the beautiful countryside overlooking Tunbridge Wells.
Roseanne Bullen, Sales Director Designate for Millwood Designer Homes comments: "Planning permissions for desirable locations such as Langton Green are notoriously hard to acquire. Luckily for purchasers, Millwood has done all the legwork, having already gained permission for the site, leaving homebuyers to simply create their perfect home, incorporating bespoke elements to suit their specific needs. Whether it's a home entertainment room, gymnasium or a cellar to store your vintage wine collection, these can all be added into the design, offering the ultimate in flexibility. 'Design and Build' puts the purchaser in control, and with such a large area of floor space to work with, the only limit is your imagination."

Many purchasers have already taken advantage of Millwood’s ‘Design and Build’ scheme at other sought-after developments and are thrilled with the results.
Adrian and Elaine Dewey bought their first Millwood home at Little York Farm, but when they were offered the opportunity to 'Design and Build' a stunning seven bedroom detached home at Edwin Place off-plan, they jumped at the chance, as they were able to incorporate many features and have a choice over the finishing touches.
Adrian explains: "Millwood's Design and Build facility, enabled us to fine tune our home to our lifestyle. Millwood designs its homes so that the exterior elevations blend seamlessly into their surroundings appear to have evolved over time. Our new home uses reclaimed bricks giving it this lovely aged quality, yet internally it features a contemporary design and is extremely low maintenance."
Keen to do his bit for the environment, Colin Ives, who purchased a home at Westfield in West Malling, used the 'Design and Build' scheme to create an eco-friendly home.
Colin explains: "'Design and build' is providing us with the opportunity to build a 'green' house and a greener future for our family. We are having a rainwater harvesting system and an underground source heat pump installed. The pump works by absorbing the heat found underground, which will be utilised to power and supply the underfloor heating, on every floor of our home. Although it is relatively expensive in the short term, I felt that the payback in the long term would be worthwhile and save us a fortune on our energy bills, especially as we are intent on staying here for a long time."
The delightful village of Langton Green benefits from a selection of local shops and the vibrant town of Tunbridge Wells is just under 3 miles away, with further amenities and a mainline train station, providing regular links to London Bridge and London Waterloo in under 1 hour. There are a number of outstanding schools within easy reach, including Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar, Tonbridge School for boys, Beechwood Sacred Heart School and Skinners School.
Guide prices for the homes at Ridgewood View will be from £2.35 million.
Millwood backs the Climate Bill with Carbon Neutral Homes
With evidence that carbon emissions are accelerating global warming and how we live having a huge impact on the environment, the need for greener homes is high on the political agenda. In addition, the Climate Bill, already in its draft stages, will make the Government's long-term goals of a 60% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 legally binding.
In support of this, and having earned a reputation for building energy efficient homes of sustainable construction, award-winning housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes is now taking the campaign to tackle climate change further with the launch of its first carbon neutral development, Coppice Mews in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Carbon emissions at the select collection of just 2, one and two bedroom apartments and 4, three bedroom townhouses will be measured to assess their annual carbon footprint. Millwood will then buy carbon credits to offset these emissions. Funds raised by the sale of carbon credits are used to support renewable energy and sustainable forestry offset projects.
As the UK's first carbon neutral housebuilder, Millwood felt it was a natural progression to extend this to its developments. John Elliott, Chief Executive for Millwood Designer Homes comments:
"Global warming is a worldwide issue and I felt it was important that we as a responsible housebuilder were innovative in our approach to a more sustainable future. Legislation, such as in the case of the climate bill, can only do so much and it is down to every individual to take some responsibility. We are extremely proud of our status as a carbon neutral housebuilder and to be creating the first of a pioneering new generation of homes at Coppice Mews that combine eco friendly practices with stylish living. These new homes will appeal to the conscientious homebuyer who is aware of the impact of harmful carbon dioxide emissions and wants to help reduce the staggering 6 tonnes that an average home emits every year."
In addition to their carbon neutral status, all homes at Coppice Mews will enjoy meticulous attention to detail and superior specification. The interiors boast fully fitted designer kitchens with the latest appliances and truly sumptuous bathrooms with exquisite white suites that are complemented by chrome fittings.
Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town that offers something for everyone, from families to single professionals alike. Nearby are the famous Pantiles, Royal Victoria Shopping Centre, specialist shops and numerous restaurants. It also has excellent links to London with direct rail services to London taking just under one hour and easy access to the A21 leading to the M25 and other motorways links, nearby.
Guide Prices are yet to be announced for Coppice Mews. For further information contact Millwood Designer Homes on 01892 518833.
